Sourcing and recruiting via social media is gaining in popularity, and according to a 2017 survey conducted by CareerBuilder, it was discovered that over 70% of hiring companies use social media to find top talent. This percentage marries well with job seeker usage of social media for finding jobs. According to an article in Inc. magazine, 79% of job seekers use social media in their career search. In support of this recruiting technique, SmartSearch hosted a webinar focused on using Facebook as a viable sourcing tool.
On August 16, 2018. Shally Steckerl, the founder of The Sourcing Institute, lead a fascinating presentation that instructed our attendees on how to use Facebook effectively for sourcing candidates. He demonstrated various search techniques using “nodes” which are people, pages, events or groups found on Facebook. Because of Facebook’s ever-changing algorithm, using Facebook can be a challenging recruiting tool, but with the use of properly and specifically constructed search strings, sourcers and recruiters can easily find and identify the people they need.
